2017 Battle Recap: Thank You!!!

18952746_10156249487739606_2346297071302887700_n
2017 was one of our best Battle’s yet! No matter where your team placed in each event, every team won first place in our Special Olympians’ hearts, by raising $86,059 for Special Olympics of Greater Dayton.

That is a life-changing amount that every participant contributed to. Our Olympians thank you, our Battle board of directors and executive staff thank you. Thank you!

A bit on the warm side, but with no 90s and no rain, it was a beautiful & sunny field day on Saturday. After a spectacular show of events from all teams and all participants, here are the results:

  • Grand Champion: Reynolds & Reynolds Nitro, working on a new streak, held onto the top spot and took the Grand Champion trophy for the second year in a row.
  • Division 1: Reynolds & Reynolds Diesel and LexisNexis were following close behind the Grand Champions as Reynolds & Reynolds Diesel captured the Division 1 trophy.
  • Division 2: Coldwell Banker Heritage took the Division 2 title from Cargill by only 10 points.
  • Division 3: WilmerHale, for the third consecutive year, raised the Division 3 trophy.
  • Division 4: This division came down to the wire with Marsh & McLennan Agency taking the prize by a mere 9 points over Aerotek.

As promised, it was a fun and competitive Battle in all divisions and categories.

Thank You to all of our Major & Minor Sponsors, Coaches and Battle Teams, Battle Board Members, Executive Staff and Volunteers,. Without all of these great people, Battle of the Businesses would not be possible!

354 days until the 2018 Battle, but who’s counting? See you then!

Bowling! Day 5 Recap

61,904!!! That’s how many pins were knocked over at Beaver Vu by the Battle teams. Nothing sounds better than a strike, and we sure heard a lot of those today. We even had a couple of almost 300 games (so close!). Excellent job bowlers and thanks spectators for joining us!

Reynolds & Reynolds Nitro is our bowling champion with a total of 2657 pins. For all the math-lovers out there, that’s an average of ~222 pins per person per game for 12 games. Wow! Premier Health came in 2nd place today with exactly 2500 pins (did you guys plan it that way?). LexisNexis took 3rd place with 2237 pins. Great job top three!

2017 Bowling Results

Okay, let’s talk overall results through bowling. It’s a very tight competition for all four division.

Division 1: Reynolds Nitro is leading the overall and division 1 with 664 points. Reynolds Diesel is in 2nd with 622 points and LexisNexis is in 3rd with 604 points.

Division 2: Cargill is leading division 2 with 519 points. Coldwell Banker is in 2nd place with 505 points. Taylor Communications Is only one point away at 504 points.

Division 3: Earlier this morning, three division 3 teams were all within one point of each other. After knocking down 1917 pins at bowling, GE Aviation is now leading division 3 with 525 points. Eastway is only one point behind at 524. The division 3 defending champion, WilmerHale, is in 3rd place with 499 points. This division’s race is a nail-biter, folks!

Division 4: Marsh & McLennan is leading division 4 with 479 points. Verso is in 2nd place with 452 points. Ellipse Solutions is in 3rd place with 386 points.

If you think the fun is over, think again. We always save the best for last, and that’s field day on Saturday. Some teams will rest on Friday, while others spend all day practicing for the six remaining events. No matter what your strategy is, we look forward to seeing your entire team bright and early Saturday morning.

It… Is… On!!! *Mic drop*

Tug & Team Ski Results – Day 4 Recap

Team Ski:
If you looked away to tie your shoes or drink water, you would have missed Taylor Communications’ blazing fast Team Ski performance. They are the Team Ski overall champion with an astonishing 1:18.70. Montgomery County Job & Family Services came in second place with 1:52.01. Reynolds & Reynolds Diesel took third place with 1:55.03, edging out the other two Reynolds & Reynolds teams by fractions of a second. That said, nothing beat seeing every single team get together as one big team to cheer on the Special Olympics. Those guys did a great job and certainly felt the love and support from all of you, thank you.

2017 Team Ski Results

Tug of War:
Some teams must have had Wheaties for breakfast and spinach for lunch on Tuesday, because we saw some amazingly competitive tugs out there. A few tugs went quickly, while others lasted what felt like an hour. You could see the sun setting during the quarter-final between LexisNexis and Mont. Co. JFS, that was one of the best tugs of the night. After that tug, LexisNexis advanced to the final four, joined by Reynolds & Reynolds Nitro (who had to go against their other team, Reynolds & Reynolds Diesel), Eastway and Synchrony Financial. Synchrony Financial and Eastway won their semi-final games against Reynolds Nitro and LexisNexis, and advanced to tug a spectacular final. After a very intense final tug (I bet those arms are sore today), Synchrony Financial became the Tug of War 2017 champion. Eastway took 2nd place, LexisNexis came in 3rd and Reynolds Nitro in 4th.

2017 Tug Results

And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for, overall results through Tuesday – Reynolds & Reynolds Nitro is in first place with 564 points. Reynolds & Reynolds Diesel is in second place with 532 points. LexisNexis is not far behind the two Reynolds teams with 512 points. The rest of the overall results through Tuesday are posted for your viewing pleasure.

Take a day off and rest those arms, we will continue the competition and fun with bowling tomorrow (Thursday, June 8) at Beaver Vu. If you are not bowling, come cheer on your favorite team(s). We look forward to seeing you all there.2017 Overall Results - Thru Tuesday 6-6-17

Volleyball Finals – Day 3 Recap

A great night of volleyball just finished and LexisNexis prevailed as the overall champ – congrats to them! Reynolds & Reynolds Nitro gave them some spirited competition and finished in second. The semifinal games were both close as well. Winsupply finished in third with WilmerHale taking fourth. Thanks to all the competitors for coming out and giving it their all.

The overall race has tightened up with Reynolds & Reynolds Nitro still in the lead. Reynolds & Reynolds Diesel and LexisNexis are now tied for second place.

2017 Battle Results Thru Sunday June 4th / Day 2 Recap

Miniature Golf:
Even though the initial forecast for Sunday showed 100% chance of thunderstorms, the only lightening we saw came from the sparks of all the hole-in-one balls many battle teams made.
It was a glorious morning for miniature golf. Even though the competition was fierce (and we wouldn’t expect anything less). Our favorite part was seeing members from different teams
encouraging each other and giving each other tips and tricks on how to get that hole-in-one.

While The Trails course was full of joy and colorful battle shirts, these teams snuck in and swept the top three positions: Reynolds & Reynolds Diesel came in 1st place with a whopping 166 combined score. Premier Health took 2nd with 171 and McGohan Brabender was not far behind in 3rd place with a team score of 172.

2017 Miniature Golf Results

Swimming & Inner Tube Relays:
After a Sunday afternoon nap, and/or a few cups of coffee, Battle of the Businesses continued with Swimming and Inner Tube. Our favorite part of the evening was seeing all the battle teams,
put their intense competition aside for a minute, to loudly cheer for their new best friends, the Special Olympics team. After that minute was over, the battle continued.

Reynolds & Reynolds Nitro used their “Nitro” to claim 1st place in both swimming and inner tube, with a blazing fast 1:22.69 swim and 2:18.66 inner tube times. LexisNexis swam their way into 2nd place at 1:26.90, while Reynolds & Reynolds Diesel used those Diesel engines to claim 2nd place for inner tube, clocking in at 2:24.97. CareSource was not far behind, taking 3rd place in both swimming and inner tube, with 1:28.86 swim and 2:25.45 inner tube times.

2017 Swimming Relay Results
2017 Inner Tube Relay Results

With that, we end a wonderful and eventful Battle weekend. Not counting volleyball (yet), we tallied the scores for this weekend’s events (mini-golf, swimming and inner tube).

So far, Reynolds & Reynolds Nitro is in overall 1st place with 290 team points. Their brother (or sister) team Reynolds & Reynolds Diesel is in 2nd place, only 10 points behind, with 280 points. Finally, LexisNexis is in 3rd place saying “I’m coming for you Reynolds” with 260 points.

See you tonight at 6pm at West Carrolton High School for the volleyball final four. Come join us and cheer on your favorite team, (or cheer for all of them so you can’t lose!!!). Either way, see you then!

Battle Opening Day – Volleyball

18920377_10156216199569606_1225292631914672603_n
It was a hot day on Saturday, but the real heat was being brought with every bump, set and spike at the UD RecPlex. Volleyball is always a great way to kick off a fun-filled Battle week. Even though only four teams made it to Monday’s final four, every single team that played on Saturday had a unique display of skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. It was wonderful seeing different teams encourage each other, cheer for each other, share tips, advice, and even snacks (with each other and with other teams)… That’s what Battle of the Businesses is all about!!!

LexisNexis was the first team to battle their way to the final four. WilmerHale followed by barely edging out Cargill and McGohan Brabender (I think I still hear the “Wilmer… HALE” cheer in my sleep). Reynolds & Reynolds Nitro had both siblings Diesel and Turbo cheering them on as they edged out Sogeti and GE Aviation in a very tough competition. We loved hearing the GE cheers with every ball they blocked. Finally, after a very close match between WinSupply and Eastway, needing every last second of the third set, WinSupply took the 4th final four spot, joining LexisNexis, Reynolds Nitro and WilmerHale.

Join us at West Carrolton High School this Monday, June 5 at 6pm to cheer on the final four, and find out who will be the 2017 Battle of the Business volleyball champion. Will it be the defending champ, LexisNexis? Will Reynolds Nitro steal the title? Or will one of the W teams (or both) pull an upset and surprise us with a win (I’m looking at you WinSupply, you have “Win” right there in your name).

Premier Health Strikes It Up – 1st In Bowling

bowling
Bowling is always a great night to sit back and have fun watching the talented bowlers go to work. Thursday night was no different as Premier Health put on a clinic with a first place finish by 133 pins! Impressive. In second, Reynolds & Reynolds White rolled a 2355 while CareSource rounded out the top three with a 2317.

The bigger news about the bowling results is how they impacted the overall results. Reynolds & Reynolds Blue is still holding onto first overall with 614 total points but only by 6 points with Reynolds & Reynolds White (608) knocking at the door. CareSource is still looking for number one with a 580 while defending Grand Champ LexisNexis sits in fourth with a 575. Our Grand Champion and Division 1 winner will come down to Saturday for sure!

In Division 2, Taylor Communications leads the field in 6th overall and 536 points but Coldwell Banker Heritage is ready to make a run for the trophy at 10th overall and 509 points. Mont Co Job & Family Services is also still eyeing the division 2 prize at 13th overall and 495 points.

Division 3 is as tight as the race can be. Eastway Behavioral Healthcare has not been in the field since 2012 but has come back onto the scene with a strong showing and is currently tied with last year’s Division 3 winner WilmerHale. They share 8th place overall with 517 points. If that wasn’t close enough for you, GE Aviation Systems sits 10th overall and is only 5 points away with a 512 total. It also should be noted that McGohan Brabender is 15th overall with 480 points, which is in total striking distance of winning the Division 3 trophy. Which team will it be!? Not sure, but it should be fun to watch Saturday.

Like the other divisions above, Division 4 should also be a great run to the finish line. Verso Corporation is the defending winner and currently leads the division in 17th overall with 461 points. They have a modest 43-point lead but watch out because everyone is chasing and in the hunt. The teams are right next to each other in the standings as Total Quality Logistics has 418 points, Krush Technologies is sitting 397, Thomson Reuters 395, Ellipse Solutions 394, American Cutting Edge 385 and Marsh & McLennan Agency 378 – so honestly, anything could happen.

Well – hold on to your sunscreen because the 2016 Battle is going to be a nail bitter. It is also going to be HOT so please come prepared. Most of all, it should be a great day – see you on the field! You can find the results page HERE.
