New venue, new events, a crazy mystery obstacle, great weather and some superb competition made for a perfect Battle Saturday! Oh yeah – don’t forget the food (thanks Cargill)!
Wow – what an incredible finish! LexisNexis is our 2015 Grand Champion by just 5 points. After trailing Reynolds & Reynolds (Power) all week, LexisNexis showed up big on Battle Saturday as they finished first in Wind Sprint Relay and Soccer Dribble, while placing no lower than 7th in the other four events. That is tough to beat!
Reynolds & Reynolds has nothing to hang their head about as all three of their teams (Power, Extreme, and Ignite) finished in the top 7. Most teams just dream of the Top 10 – Great job Reynolds!
WilmerHale is one of the best surprises of 2015! Not only did they easily win a Spirit award but they finished 3rd overall. So say it loud “Wilmer–Hale…Wilmer-Hale.” I would watch out for this team next year!
Alright, so clearly the completion was tough this year but so were all the teams fundraising. Teams raised $77,298.77 for the Dayton Area Special Olympics. That is a phenomenal effort off the playing field and Dayton Battle thanks every single person that made this possible.
Thanks again to all of our major sponsors, Battle Board members, executive staff, volunteers, coaches and battle teams. Without all of these great people, Battle of the Businesses would not be possible. Can’t wait to see you in 2016!
Wow! What a night at Battle Bowling. Can you say fun, lanes and a 300? That is right – we had a perfect score last night courtesy of Brian Hatcher from Verso. It was not only exciting to watch but also great to see all the Battle teams coming together for the celebration.
On the scoreboard, it was Reynolds & Reynolds (Power) once again flexing their muscles as they posted a combined score of 2583 to take first place. Verso and McGohan Brabender rounded out the top 3.
After bowling, the overall results at the top did not change as the top 5 spots remained the same. That sets up a fantastic Battle Saturday as the overall champion spot is still wide open. Once again, thanks to everyone that came out to bowling and make sure you rest up today because tomorrow it is on!!
It may have been slightly colder this year but at least we didn’t have any rain as Battle continued Tuesday night with an always tough Tug-of-War and the challenging Team Ski event.
Tug found some past winners in the final as Synchrony Financial (formally GE Capital) and LexisNexis pulled till they couldn’t pull anymore. Synchrony out lasted Lexis for the win! The recreational bracket found MONCO Enterprises victorious over a tough Standard Register team! It was an intense and fun competition all the way around!
Team Ski was conquered by LJB Inc. with the fastest time of 1:37:08. Although Standard Register and Verso were hot on their tracks as they rounded out the top 3. Speaking of tight – the gap at the top has closed a bit as Reynolds & Reynolds (Power) still holds first but LexisNexis is creeping up and WilmerHale has jumped into 3rd!
Once again a big thanks to all of our volunteers to make a smooth Battle night and we will see you Thursday for Bowling. Remember tonight is for rest!
After an extremely competitive and fun night at volleyball, LexisNexis prevailed over Standard Register in the finals. A big congratulations goes out to all four teams that made the finals Monday night as they displayed great team work and sportsmanship!
Battle continues tonight with Tug-of-War and Team Ski at Research Park 6:30 PM.
We had a nice kick off this past weekend to Battle. Saturday had all of our teams squaring off across the net in volleyball which has set up an excellent Final Four. We also had rookie team Midmark Corporation edging out DP&L (Wind) to win the Recreational tournament.
Starting at 6pm tonight, Reynolds & Reynolds (Extreme) and Standard Register will be vying for the finals and on the other side of the bracket we find LexisNexis taking on Reynolds & Reynolds (Power). If you saw any of these teams play Saturday you already know that tonight should be guaranteed fun!
The weather held off mostly on Sunday morning as our Battle mini golfers took over Indian Trails. Synchrony Financial brought the skill as they shot a combined 171 for an overall 1st place. Thanks again for working with us, as we know there were several little hiccups to the event!
Battle at the pool Sunday night is always a blast; Reynolds & Reynolds (Power) backed up their name with overall 1st place in both the swimming and inner tube relay. As always, it was great to see Battle teams pairing up with our Olympians and earning participation points which captures the true spirit of Battle.
After the weekend performance, Reynolds & Reynolds (Power) is first overall with a small lead. Reynolds & Reynolds (Extreme) and LexisNexis are on their heels though rounding out the top 3. Thanks again for everyone that came out this weekend which includes teams, spectators and volunteers. We will see you tonight for volleyball finals and Tuesday night for Tug and Team Ski!
Due to the availability of having two fields to run events on Saturday June 6th, we have reversed Punt, Pass & Place Kick & Soccer Dribble in the order of events. Attached is a revised schedule for Saturday June 6th, listing the revised order the events will run plus which field we will run them on.
With the use of two fields to run events, we are assuming the events will run faster since we can reduce set up time. The day may go quicker than previous years, so please plan accordingly.
Email the Battle if you have any questions or concerns regarding this change. Thanks for your flexibility.
Wright State University – Rinzler Student Sports Complex & Mulhollan Field will be our venue for Battle Saturday June 6, 2015 (CLICK HERE FOR DIRECTIONS/MAP). This venue has much to offer (parking, two fields to work with, great viewing) but there will be a few changes required as well. Please Read for more information. A map is available below to help you visualize the location and where tents will be placed.
With this new venue, we need to make the following changes to the Battle Tents:
1. Absolutely No Commercial Stakes are allowed due to underground wiring.
2. Those teams wanting to rent Big Tents (i.e. commercial rentals) will need to work with Prime Time Rentals. We had to limit this to one rental company because of the state inspection for tents and other equipment required when using a facility at a state university. We also wanted to try to help with the added cost and could not do this with multiple vendors. Commercial tents must be frame tents with weights. They will cost a bit more – Battle is paying the delivery fee for all Battle tents – so if some companies want to share we will try to help you find a tent partner or we encourage you to use the Battle Facebook page to look for a partner.
3. Teams with “easy up” types of tents will be able to use small stakes to secure them (estimated max stake size of 10 inches).
4. Grills are permitted in the tent area. However, the grills Must Not be under any tent or cover due to fire hazards. We will try to space tents far enough apart to accommodate this. We are told that security will be checking to ensure compliance.
You can click HERE for a general schematic of Rinzler Student Sports Complex and where Battle Tents will be located. We will be assigning Tent Locations to Battle Teams due to the new venue.
Suzie Stewart is in charge of tents. You can contact her with questions at firstname.lastname@example.org cell: (937) 266-1211.
What an exciting night at the bowling alley! Reynolds & Reynolds – Safety broke Reynolds old record of 2665. They found another 46 pins for a record breaking total of 2711 pins! That is how you knock ‘em down!
In other battle news we got our first look at the booze barrel that you can buy a $5 raffle ticket for thru Saturday night. We also saw how much bowling alley food the Battle board can consume!
In the overall results, Reynolds & Reynolds – Safety increased their lead slightly but has LexisNexis knocking at the door. NewPage, Reynolds & Reynolds – Cyber and GE Capital are all hungry for first as they round out the top 5. This should set up a superb Battle Saturday!
Good luck everyone and thanks for a great Battle so far!
Tuesday night not only found Battle teams competing against each other but also the hot and muggy weather. Although we won’t complain as there was no rain and the warmth didn’t stop any of the strong arm completion in the Tug-of-War.
It was the battle of the strongest and biggest as Cargill, Inc. eventually pulled the defending 2013 winner GE Capital Retail Finance team across the line for the 2014 victory. The night also saw DP&L – Edison defeating Springfield City Schools for the recreational bracket crown. It was an intense and fun completion all the way around!
In Team Ski we saw LJB Inc. taking the number one position with a time of 1:43:91 followed closely by NewPage Corporation and Standard Register – Safety. If you have not ever competed in team ski before than you cannot appreciate how well these teams did!
Overall, the quest for Grand Champion narrowed as Reynolds & Reynolds – Safety still holds the lead but LexisNexis is closing the gap while NewPage Corporation makes a big move from ninth to third in the overall results thru June 3, 2014.
Tonight is our off night so everyone rest up and get ready for the always enjoyable Bowling Event tomorrow night!
